Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) refers to the analysis of wastewater to detect the presence of certain compounds or pathogens and determine their prevalence at the population level. This tool emerged during the pandemic as a promising approach to track the progression of SARS-CoV-2 in communities around the world.
