Viral RNA/DNA Concentration and Extraction Kits for Wastewater

Direct Capture of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in 2 Hours

The Viral RNA/DNA Concentration and Extraction Kits for Wastewater include reagents and consumables to concentrate and purify total nucleic acids (TNA) in one convenient kit. Our unique vacuum-based direct capture method concentrates and captures viral TNA much faster than PEG/NaCl precipitation without the use of cumbersome ultracentrifugation, while achieving high and consistent yield. The whole process from sample to purified TNA takes less than 2 hours and is scalable and adaptable to your needs. The process also removes most PCR inhibitors, so the resulting TNA can be used immediately for amplification of SARS-CoV-2 RNA using the SARS-CoV-2 RT-qPCR Kit for Wastewater.

We offer three kit formats based on sample throughput. Direct capture of nucleic acids is followed by purification using mini spin columns (1–20 samples per run), benchtop automation using Maxwell® Instruments (1–48 samples per run), or plate-based high-throughput automation (1–96 samples per run). An optional step can be included to extract nucleic acids from solid samples.

Choose A Format For Your Sample Throughput

Manual (1–20 samples per run)

The Wastewater Large-Volume TNA Capture Kit (AX9550) allows you to get purified TNA in 90 minutes or less with a simple protocol. First, the TNA is directly captured from wastewater using the PureYield™ Midicolumn and Vac-Man® Laboratory Vacuum Manifold. Then, the lysate is further cleaned using PureYield™ Minicolumns. The recommended protocol starts from 40ml of wastewater and results in 40µl of TNA. For more details, view the protocol video.

Maxwell® Automation (1–48 samples per run)

The Maxwell® Wastewater TNA Capture Kit (AX9560) allows you to get purified TNA in 2 hours with vacuum-based direct capture of TNA followed by automated RNA extraction using Maxwell® Instruments. The Maxwell® RSC Instrument can process 1 to 16 samples, and the Maxwell® RSC 48 Instrument can process 1 to 48 samples in a single run. Viral TNA is first captured from wastewater using the PureYield™ Midicolumn and Vac-Man® Laboratory Vacuum Manifold. Then, the lysate is loaded into the Maxwell® RSC Instrument for walkaway RNA extraction. The recommended protocol starts from 40ml of wastewater and results in 40µl of TNA. Plate-Based Automation (1–96 samples per run)

The Maxwell® HT Environmental TNA Kit (AX9190) can be used for high-throughput, automated extraction of viral TNA from wastewater. Samples are processed in 96-well plates using magnetic separation. The kit can be used with any automated high-throughput platform (e.g., KingFisher® and Hamilton). Our Field Support Scientists can help you implement or optimize automation of viral RNA extraction methods that meets your specific needs!
