The PowerPlex® ESX 17 and ESI Pro Systems were developed for human identification applications including forensic analysis, relationship testing and research use and meet the new ENFSI recommendations for DNA profile sharing across Europe. They are based on five-color technology and allow co-amplification and detection of 17 loci, including D18S51, D21S11, TH01, D3S1358, Amelogenin, D16S539, D2S1338, D1S1656, D10S1248, FGA, D8S1179, vWA, D22S1045, D19S433, D12S391, D2S441 and SE33.
These two STR systems are available separately or as a bundle and can be used to complement each other when analyzing degraded or challenging samples to maximize recovery of allelic information from as many loci as possible and also allow confirmation of results obtained with the other system.
These systems include a proprietary 5X master mix that contains hot-start Taq DNA polymerase, buffer, salts, MgCl2 and dNTPs. Additionally, the kits have increased tolerance to common inhibitors and increased sensitivity to obtain full profiles from low-level DNA and are robust enough to genotype degraded DNA samples through the use of mini-STR loci.
The PowerPlex® ESX 17 and ESI 17 Pro Systems are compatible with ABI PRISM® 310, 3100 and 3100-Avant Genetic Analyzers and Applied Biosystems® 3130, 3130xl, 3500 and 3500xL Genetic Analyzers. Panels and bins text files are required for use with GeneMapper® ID and ID-X software and are available for download.
