Epub ahead of print. doi: 10.1002/mnfr.201801237. Induction of Autophagy and Activation of SIRT-1 Deacetylation Mechanisms Mediate Neuroprotection by the Pomegranate Metabolite Urolithin A in BV2 Microglia and Differentiated 3D Human Neural Progenitor Cells. 2019

Velagapudi, R., Lepiarz, I., El-Bakoush, A., Katola, F.O., Bhatia, H., Fiebich, B.L., Olajide, O.A.

Notes: In this study, researchers used the Autophagy LC3 HiBiT Reporter Assay to understand the impact of urolithin A on the autophagy pathway, using HEK293, BV2 microglia and differentiated ReNcell VM cells.  (5187)

Biomaterials 25, 843–850. Protection of insulin secreting cells from nitric oxide induced cellular damage by crosslinked hemoglobin. 2004

Chaea, S.Y., Leeb, M., Kimb, S.W. and Baeb, Y.H.

Notes: The authors studied the effect of nitric oxide stress on rat Islets of Langerhans cells and rat insulinoma cell line (RINm5F) and to determine if cross-linked hemoglobin (Hb-C)could mediate the stress and subsequent apoptosis.  The rat cells were treated with a nitric oxide donor SNAP and the DeadEnd™ Colorimetric TUNEL System was used to measure the effect of NO with or without Hb-C.  In addition, the cell viability was assessed using the CellTiter 96® AQueous One Solution Cell Proliferation Assay.  Twenty-four hours after SNAP treatment, the level of NO2 (a by-product of NO) was measured using Griess Reagent to determine the level of nitric oxide production induced. Infect. Immun. 66, 1534-1537. Phlebotomus papatasi saliva inhibits protein phosphatase activity and nitric oxide production by murine macrophages 1998

Waitumbi, J., Warburg, A.

Notes: The Access RT-PCR System was used to determine HPRT (hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase) and iNOS (induced nitric oxide synthase) mRNA in salivary gland lysate of P. papatasi. The Griess Reagent System was used to measure the nitrite accumulation in macrophage culture media. (0191)
