General Manager, Australia (Sydney, Australia)

Job Description

JOB OBJECTIVE: Leads the Australian Branch in commercial success and financial performance. The GM is responsible for the development and execution of a business strategy which aligns with corporate objectives and delivers above-market growth in both revenue and earnings.

CORE DUTIES:

1. Growth Strategy: Define, establish and implement effective short, medium and long-range objectives for the branch operation; to achieve revenue growth in line with market potential through action plan and tactics directed through direct sales force, distributors and collaborations.

2. Market Alignment: Communicate effectively with the CEO about the Australian market's needs, ensuring business plans are in sync with global strategies and market demands.

3. Innovation & Collaboration: Identify business initiatives specific for purposes of collaboration, technology introduction and technology acquisition. Report on comprehensive market segment opportunities; including competitor information in the life science research market in Australia.

4. Market Intelligence: Ensures feedback mechanisms are in place to monitor competitive trends, customer dynamics and technology trends to provide corporate functions timely and regular feedback for development of strategic initiatives and direction.

5. Team Development: Foster a high-performance team culture, enhancing staff skills and performance.

6. Sales & Marketing Plans: Collaborate with segment leaders to create and implement effective local sales and marketing strategies, evaluating results against plans.

7. Relationship Building: Cultivate strong relationships with key opinion leaders, customers and strategic partners to support Promega’s strategic and tactical initiatives for higher market share.

8. Technical Support: Develop technical sales support to reinforce Promega's reputation as a leader in innovation within Australia. Leverage current Madison teams to augment branch activity.

9. Branch Leadership: Oversee branch operations, setting vision and goals, and ensuring alignment with global sales and marketing strategies.

10. Channel Optimization: Manage sales channels to support marketing strategies and maximize revenue growth.

11. Financial Oversight: Approve and review sales targets, forecasts, and budgets, providing executive summaries of financial performance and adjusting strategies as necessary.

12. Corporate Connectivity: Enhance team integration with corporate headquarters, supporting company-wide initiatives.

13. Culture & ESI: Promote emotional and social intelligence within the team, maintaining Promega’s culture and principles.

SPECIFIC JOB RELATED SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills illustrated by track record.

2. Demonstrates a sense of urgency with a motivating attitude.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s life science degree or equivalent experience required.

2. Demonstrated track record of 15 or more years’ experience in business unit management and at least 5 of those years with full P&L responsibilities and running multiple departments.

3. Strong market segment knowledge and understanding of Genomics, Proteomics, Cell Analysis, Molecular Diagnostics and new markets.

4. Executes sound judgment, analyzes issues, thinks strategically, creatively, and uses innovative ideas.

5. Proven experience marketing both new technologies or products, and more mature established products.

6. Strong strategic and tactical marketing, marketing communications, market research, product management, distribution channels, competitive intelligence, and customer relationship management.

7. Good knowledge of existing and emerging marketplace distribution channels and how to creatively employ them for competitive advantage.

8. Demonstrates communication skills for multiple audiences via multiple media, including shifting communication style, rapid synthesis for executive communication, and analytical communication for detail-oriented audiences. Exceptional public speaking skills needed to represent corporation at external meetings, conferences and organizations. Able to present high level information based on analysis and facts.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Advanced Degree M.S., Ph.D., or MBA Preferred.

2. Prior experience as a general manager.

3. Managing a business portfolio with multi-million+ and diverse products.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Must have the ability to use computer equipment.

2. Must have the ability to travel both domestically and internationally as needed.
