Mass Spectrometry

Proteins are generally digested with proteases to generate peptides for mass spectrometry analysis (e.g., bottom-up proteomics). Promega provides high-quality proteases, including trypsin and alternative proteases specifically developed for mass spectrometry applications. For middle-down proteomics of antibodies, we offer IdeS/IdeZ proteases. We also offer glycosidases for use in analysis of post-translational modifications, as well as peptide reference mixes and other reagents for monitoring mass spectrometry instrument performance.

Introduction to Mass Spectrometry

Mass spectrometry (MS) is a powerful analytical tool used for proteome-wide analysis and characterization of proteins from a variety of organisms and cell types. MS is a sensitive method for detecting molecules based on their mass-to-charge ratio. Recent advances in mass spectrometry provide tools for protein identification, protein characterization, relative and absolute quantitation, and the study of post-translational modifications and protein:protein interactions.

Mass spectrometry products available from Promega are used for many proteomics research and drug development applications, including identification and characterization of biotherapeutic antibodies and evaluation of post-translational modifications that may affect antibody efficacy or stability.
