What is the genetic reporter instrument package supplied with the Turner Designs
Luminometer Model TD-20/20?
Every Turner Designs Model TD-20/20 Luminometer (Cat.# E2041, E2051, E2061, E2351, E2361) supplied through
Promega comes with the Genetic Reporter Instrument Package. This package consists of an
RS-232 9-pin serial cable for connecting the TD-20/20 Luminometer to a PC and software for
interfacing data collection to an Excel spreadsheet. The RS-232 9-pin serial cable
connects from the serial port on the back of the TD-20/20 to a serial 9-pin port on the
back of the PC. In some cases, however, this port may be occupied by the mouse for the PC.
If so, the Genetic Reporter Instrument Package also includes a 25F/9M connector for
converting the serial 25-pin port on the back of the PC to a 9-pin serial port compatible
with the RS-232 9-pin serial cable.
The Turner Designs Spreadsheet Interface Software (version 2.0.1) allows the user to
automatically download data directly from the TD-20/20 Intrument to an Excel spreadsheet
on a PC. Use of this software requires Microsoft Windows® 95 (or higher) and
Excel 5.0 (or higher). The software comes on two 3.5 inch disks and is easily installed to
the "programs" menu on the researcher's PC. Following installation the software
can be opened by double-clicking on the icon named "_TD2" in the programs menu.
The Excel application can then be opened from within the "_TD2" program by
pressing the "Start" button displayed on the screen. When the "Go"
button on the TD-20/20 Instrument is pressed, data captured by the luminometer is
automatically downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet. Once the data is in an Excel format, it
can be easily manipulated in any number of ways.
