Applications of a Smaller, Brighter More Versatile Luciferase Reporter

  • Characteristics and uses of the three NanoLuc™ Luciferase genes
  • Strategies for handling the bright luminescence signal
  • Considerations for deciding between Firefly and NanoLuc™ Luciferase
  • Applications of using NanoLuc™ Luciferase as a fusion partner

Summary

NanoLuc™ Luciferase, a 19kDa, monomeric luciferase gives a brighter signal and enables more sensitive measurement. The NanoLuc™/Nano-Glo™ Assay is ~100-fold brighter than either firefly or Renilla luciferase in vitro and in cells.

In this webinar, Dr. Hooper will address the characteristics and uses of the NanoLuc™ Luciferase, strategies for handling the bright luminescence signal and considerations for choosing between Firefly or NanoLuc™ Luciferase.

Kyle Hooper, PhD
Product Manager, Cellular Analysis and Automation

Kyle received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Kansas Medical Center where he studied the interactions of prolactin with its receptor using techniques like cell-based assays, protein expression, and molecular biology. Prior to joining Promega, he did a post-doc at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in the Molecular Department. Kyle studied the interaction of diphtheria toxin with its receptor, heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor, using techniques like site-directed mutagenesis, transfection and cell-based assays. Kyle first worked for five and a half years in the Promega Technical Services department helping researchers troubleshoot and refine their assays. Next, Kyle moved into product development working closely with R&D and recently joined the newly formed North American branch office focusing on cellular analysis and personal automation.
