GloMax® 96 Microplate Luminometer Computer Requirements

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I don't have the Professional version of Windows 7 or 8.1? Will the Home Premium or Ultimate Editions work?

Compatibility with the Home Premium and Ultimate Editions have not been tested. There are many possible combinations of Microsoft Office and Windows® versions. To ensure compatibility with the GloMax® 96 software please follow the recommended guidelines.

If I use the USB/RS-232 adaptor is there a driver that I need to use? If so, where do I find it?

When using the Tripp-Lite USB to Serial Adaptor (U209-000-R) the driver is usually detected by Windows® automatically. However, the driver may be found on the accompanying CD with the GloMax® 96 or from the Tripp-Lite web site. Be sure to install the drivers (32- or 64-bit drivers) appropriate to the operating system of the PC.

Are there any software programs that can be run in the background that will cause incompatibilities?

Avoid using any other software in the background. Running additional software programs in the background can draw computing resources and affect the GloMax® 96 software. While collecting data only the GloMax® software should be used; any power saving options, screen savers and computer scans (e.g., automatic updates, virus scans, etc.) should be disabled. If using a laptop it should be powered by the power supply not the battery. As the GloMax® software uses a Microsoft Excel® spreadsheet it is very important that one not try using Excel® for any other purposes while conducting an experiment. A dedicated PC to operate the instrument is preferred to avoid PC conflicts with other connected devices.

Are there any system requirements for Windows® Home and Business Edition?

Please refer to www.microsoft.com for Windows® 7 Professional, Windows® 8.1 and Office 2010 Home and Business Edition system requirements.

Is the GloMax® 96 Software compatible with Windows® 8.1 and Office 2013?

Yes, the system was tested and found to be compatible with 64-bit Windows® 8.1 and Office 2013.

Will the 64-bit version of Microsoft 2010 Home and Business Edition work?

The Microsoft 2010 Home and Business Edition has two different versions, a 32-bit and 64-bit version. The 32-bit software version is recommended by Microsoft for use on both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows® PCs. Therefore the 32-bit version of Microsoft Home and Business Edition was tested with a 64-bit Windows® 7 PC and Windows® 8.1 PC and found to be compatible. Please refer to www.microsoft.com for more information.
