Rapidly Detect Live Legionella with Precision
Protect Public Health and Boost Operational Efficiency
Water safety is critical to preventing diseases like Legionnaires’ disease, which is caused by Legionella bacteria. These bacteria thrive in a variety of environments—such as cooling towers, plumbing systems, and healthcare facilities—that pose contamination risks. Traditional culture-based monitoring methods can take up to 10 days, while PCR-based approaches offer faster results but cannot differentiate between live and dead cells, leading to potential false positives.
Our workflow features advanced DNA extraction, an optional viability selection step and a choice of single or multiplexed qPCR kits, that allow you to efficiently and accurately detect live Legionella in 1 working day, keeping your water systems safe.

Flexible Solutions for Legionella Detection and Water Safety
Our Legionella Viability qPCR Kits deliver a reliable and scalable solution to support your water safety testing needs. Key features include:
- Accurate Viability Detection: Quickly and accurately distinguish between live and dead cells to ensure valid results.
- Flexible Workflow: Choose between manual or automated DNA extraction, with an optional cell viability selection step to reduce false positives.
- Expanded Detection: Detects three key targets—Legionella spp., Legionella pneumophila, and Legionella pneumophila Serogroup 1—with multiplexing, improving accuracy and efficiency.
These results provide crucial data for effective water management and safety protocols, allowing timely interventions and preventing unnecessary actions.

Sample Processing

Concentrate bacteria through filtration or use an aliquot from a sample.

To eliminate false positive results, DNA of non-viable cells is blocked from amplification by treating the filter or suspended sample with the viability reagent (included in the Viability PCR kits).

Quick DNA isolation and purification using either the automated Maxwell® RSC PureWater Kit, or for manual users, the Wizard® PureWater Kit.

PCR amplification of Legionella spp., L. pneumophila and Serogroup 1 (SG1). Two kit configurations are available either with or without viability treatment.
