Profiles in DNA: Article Submission

Authors can submit articles via e-mail to profilesindna@promega.com as an attached Word document.

All articles submitted to Profiles in DNA should be written to a broad audience, addressing individuals with various levels of scientific training and experience.

Estimating Length

The average article in Profiles in DNA has 1000–1300 words (word count includes tables) and one to three figures. However, articles can vary greatly in length.

Article Organization

Longer articles will have the most of the following sections. Shorter articles with less than approximately 1000 words may not include all of these sections.

  • Authors: Include the full name and a complete address for each author. Please designate a corresponding author and include his or her telephone and e-mail address.
  • Introduction: An introduction usually accompanies longer articles only. Provide the necessary background to understand the article.
  • Methods: Unless the details of the protocol are central to the article, list methods in figure legends or table footnotes. Whenever possible, cite a protocol in the literature or an instruction manual.
  • Section Titles: These flags alert the reader to the points that are of the most interest.
  • Acknowledgments: Optional.
  • References: Mark these numerically within the text and list in order of appearance. We do include titles and the page range of each article.

Figures and Graphs

Submit figures in electronic format (jpg, gif, tiff or eps format, at least 200dpi) or as high-quality photos. Schematics, flowcharts, etc., can be created from rough, yet legible, hand drawings if necessary. If figures were used in previous publications, you must inform us at the time of submission, since we must obtain permission from those publications to reprint.

Your submission will be acknowledged promptly by e-mail.
