Publication Date: 2011

Mark your calendar for the 22nd International Symposium on Human Identification in October. Since its inception in 1989, the symposium’s reach has expanded geographically as well as topically. After twenty years, the conference is widely recognized as the largest meeting of its type to focus exclusively on topics of interest to those involved in the field of forensic DNA.

This year’s symposium will be held October 3–6, 2011, in National Harbor, Maryland, located just minutes from Washington, D.C. Workshops are planned on issues of critical importance to today’s forensic scientists including: familial searches, forensic DNA phenotyping, troubleshooting common laboratory problems and more.

The keynote address for the 2½ day symposium will be presented by Juan Enriquez, a well-known futurist who will captivate the audience with his vision of what the future of forensics will be. A panel discussion is planned on forensic DNA phenotyping. Sections of the symposium will focus on new technologies, legislative updates and interesting cases. More than 100 scientific posters will be presented by members of the forensic community.
