Press Releases
Promega, UW Screening Facility and NIH Chemical Genomics Center Bring Chemical Genomics Symposium to University of Wisconsin-Madison
MADISON, WISCONSIN (January 21, 2009)
NIH Chemical Genomics Center, UW Small Molecule Screening
Facility, and Promega
Corporation Partner to Sponsor a
Chemical Genomics Symposium at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison, Feb 6th. The symposium will feature how
small molecule screening is expanding from pharmaceutical
drug discovery into academic research.
Jim Inglese, the Deputy Director of NIH (National Institutes
of Health) Chemical Genomics Center, will headline the all
day event. Speakers from Kansas University, the University
of Minnesota, the University of Michigan and the University
of Wisconsin will provide examples of how small molecules
modulators can be used to understand signaling pathways
important in normal and pathological cellular behavior.
High throughput screening of chemical libraries often
provides the starting point for selection of the appropriate
chemical scaffolds. However, academic labs often do not have
the resources to implement ultra high throughput screens.
This symposium will provide an understanding of how
investigators can interact with local screening centers to
facilitate success of a screening project, and the process
involved in getting a screen selected for inclusion in an
uHTS facility within the
NIH Molecular Libraries Probe Production Centers Network.
The symposium will be held Friday, February 6, 2009,
9:00a.m.-5:00p.m., at the Ebling Symposium Center
University of Wisconsin-Madison, Microbial Sciences
Building, 1510 Linden Drive, Madison, WI. There is no charge
for the symposium, lunch will be provided.
