Promega Spring Art Showcase Features Colorful Fiber Art
And the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra ART OF NOTE Project

MADISON, WISCONSIN (February 22, 2007)

The Promega Art Showcase "Beyond Boundaries" will feature the fiber art of Madison artists Deb Menz, Karen Saunders, Mary Jo Scandin and Joan Zieger. The show contains over 90 pieces of fiber art with extravagant ranges in size, color, medium and content. The unexpected can be expected when viewing fiber artwork as diverse as a dress of photographs, a beaded aquarium, an unattached quilt and life-size women in oil cloth.

A limited time showing of hand painted violins will also be on display from March 13 through March 30. The painted violins are part of a fund raising auction for the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra ART OF NOTE Project. For information on the artists, pictures of the violins or the ART OF NOTE project visit www.artofnote.org.

The show opens Tuesday March 13, 2007 and continues through May 31, 2007 at the Promega BioPharmaceutical Technology Center in Madison. An art opening reception will be held on Tuesday March 13 from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm and is open to the public.

Deb Menz, known as an authority on the use of color and dyes, is the author of "Color Works" and "Color in Spinning" and is a nationally known teacher and lecturer. Exploring color and texture, she uses her own hand made papers, hand dyed handspun yarns and includes various embellishing techniques such as embroidery with threads and beads to complete her small format pieces. Deb's fiber art is shown locally and at the Longmont Art Museum in Colorado.

Karen Saunders explores abstraction, attachment and a new freedom with borders and quilt edges in a complex and earthy range of color in hand-dyed fabrics. Her work is about pattern and color with no rigid design plan. She is a former gallery owner whom marketed over 120 artist's work.

Mary Jo Scandin introduces traditional batik and surface design techniques, as well as a contemporary use of fibers into her layered paintings, fabric books and three dimensional pieces. Her silk paintings have been used to illustrate three children’s books and are available on posters and note cards. Her collection is throughout the United States and Europe.

Joan Zieger explores intense color and minimal line in her bold, exuberant art quilts and series of life-size women entitled "Ladies of a Certain Mileage™". Her collections have been exhibited regionally and throughout the United States.

Promega Corporation has sponsored the artist's showcase since 1996 as part of the company's commitment to creativity and innovation in the arts, cultures and sciences. The Biopharmaceutical Technology Center, located on 5445 East Cheryl Parkway two miles south of Highway 12/18 (Beltline) off Fish Hatchery Road, was developed, in part, to provide Promega employees and community members a place to pursue these goals.

The exhibit is open Monday–Friday 8 am – 4 pm from March 13, 2007 through May 31, 2007. Daniel Swadener, in conjunction with Promega, is the producer of the art exhibit. For more information he can be contacted through e-mail at swadener@excite.com or visit his web site at www.danielswadener.com.
