Now scientists have automation for quality sample prep right
at the bench. Promega Corporation recently introduced one of the
first integrated systems in Personal Automation™; The Maxwell 16
System supports purification needs in life science, clinical research
and forensics. Up to 16 samples for DNA, RNA or protein can be purified
with the same consistency and quality as manual methods in about
30 minutes.
"Our mission is to keep scientists as close to their science
as possible," says Promega CEO Bill Linton. "Researchers need to
have access to automation that gives them more capability and control
without great expense. Personal automation as exemplified by Maxwell
is a big step in reaching that goal."
The Maxwell 16 System is an integrated purification system that
includes:
- instrument (about the size of an open laptop computer)
- reagents in pre-filled cartridges
- programmed automated protocols
- full support and service
The system is optimized for DNA, RNA and protein purification.
A Maxwell 16 System can be ready for work in 15 minutes from delivery
and protocols take the touch of a button to initiate.
The Maxwell 16 System works on a breadth of sample types including
blood, cells, and tissue. It even handles the grinding of tissue
samples for gDNA purification. Scientists place the sample right
into the cartridge – no overnight proteinase K treatment needed.
Additionally, Maxwell is designed to avoid cross contamination.
