From revealing the origins of man to practicing sophisticated techniques in DNA typing – the most advanced
applications and issues for DNA specialists are featured and explored at the Promega 16th International Symposium on
Human Identification starting September 26.
Keynote speaker Spencer Wells, Director of the National Geographic Genographic Project* discusses his unique
work in the largest genetic study of human migration. Also at the symposium, participants can learn about the novel
techniques used in the high profile, Muhammad Malvo Serial Sniper case. An FBI representative recounts the
investigation of the well-known incident from October 2002.
"We hope forensic scientists find both inspiration and answers in this year’s symposium," says Bill Linton,
Promega Chairman and CEO. “For the past 15 years Promega has sponsored this DNA-focused forum to feature the latest
applications, technologies and regulations in forensic science. The discussions and presentations will assist
scientists and forensic experts as they apply advanced technologies in human identification casework."
The four day symposium covers a breadth of information that focuses on the forensic science field. This year,
speakers discuss new legislation requiring the typing of all felons, updates in DNA policies and the FBI
CODIS Program, as well as new technologies to help automate and accelerate tedious lab procedures.
The Promega Symposium runs September 26-29 at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas. Please see the
symposium agenda for event details.
