Novel Forums Deliver Rich Exchange on Challenging Topics in Science

MADISON, WISCONSIN (April 11, 2006)

Challenging topics in science will be examined head-on in upcoming forums sponsored in part by Promega Corporation. Leaders in science and bioethics will conduct thoughtful discussion regarding stem cell research, clones and chimera at two conferences to be held at the Biopharmaceutical Technology Center (BTC) in Fitchburg.

“We need to encourage thought provoking discussion in science, especially in newer areas of research. Such an examination is critical to foster best practices and create an understanding of the exploration not only within the scientific community, but for all of us,” says Bill Linton, Promega CEO.

The two forums scheduled later this month include:

April 19 – 1st Annual Wisconsin Stem Cell Symposium
Scientific thought leaders gather to discuss neural stem cells and the brain. Discussions and lectures will range from understanding how stem cells repair a damaged brain to what it could take to introduce stem cell therapies as medical treatments. The Symposium is presented by the BTC Institute and UW Madison NIH Stem Cell Training Program.

April 20-21 – 5th Annual International Bioethics Forum
The Bioethics Forum brings together groups who rarely have opportunity to gather outside their own discipline. The topic of “Clones and Chimeras” is featured at this year’s forum. Scientists, ethicists, lawyers and medical practitioners exchange their points of view with their peers as well as educators and students. The Forum is coordinated by the BTC Institute.
