Promega receives top honors from R&D Magazine for the
development of the product P450-Glo™ CYP450 Assay System. The product,
recognized for its innovation, is one of 100 honored by R&D
Magazine this year. The sensitivity of the product is up to
1000 times greater than what scientists have used to-date. Promega
shares the spot light with corporations from all facets of technology
including life science, electronics, optics and materials.
The P450-Glo™ CYP450 Assay System is the first bioluminescent
CYP450 enzyme assay system. P450-Glo helps life scientists assess
the safety and metabolism of drugs, environmental chemicals and
other xenobiotics by measuring their effects on CYP450 enzyme activities.
CYP450s are enzymes that breakdown these compounds and prepare them
for elimination from the body.
The luminescent “glo” of the product is generated by firefly
luciferase which is linked to CYP450 enzyme activity. P450-Glo correlates
changes in luminescence intensity brought on by drugs or other compounds.
“Significantly advancing the ability of a scientist to conduct
this type of analysis is the type of breakthrough that we strive
for at Promega,” says Jim Cali, lead scientist on the P450-Glo team.
“The P450-Glo product achieves an important leap forward by replacing
conventional approaches with our cutting edge luminescent technology.”
