Breakthroughs in DNA Typing Featured at Promega International Symposium

MADISON, WISCONSIN (September 28, 2004)

From Y-STR technologies to micro devices – forensic scientists learn about the latest developments in their field at the Promega 15th International Symposium on Human Identification, held October 4-7 in Phoenix, Arizona. Sessions throughout the event feature the work of international experts and the top forensic labs around the world.

“Promega is proud to sponsor the most DNA-focused conference for the international forensic science community,” says Bill Linton, Promega Chairman and CEO. “As the use of this technology increases, particularly in matters of life and death, we believe it’s critical that forensic scientists have a forum to discuss, refine and advance their capabilities in the lab.”

The 15th International Symposium will address new technologies available to labs, the growing number of applications for existing technologies, and best practices of the top labs. Sessions include discussion of some of the more well-known human identification cases, including the Kobe Bryant case and the use of SNP technology to identify a serial killer in Louisiana.

The popular “Interesting Cases” session continues this year where analysts share their most challenging and intriguing cases and discuss how they were handled. One of the stories this year involves a case where novel means were employed to type a sample with mixed human and animal DNA.

The Symposium runs October 4-7 at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort in Phoenix, Arizona. S
