RNAgents® Total RNA Isolation System

By Douglas Barron
Promega Corporation

Promega's RNAgents® Total RNA Isolation System is designed for the rapid and convenient isolation of total RNA from animal tissue, plant tissue and cultured cells. The system has been modified to increase ease of use, performance in total RNA recovery and flexibility with starting source of RNA. The purity and integrity of RNA isolated from tissue or cultured cells are critical for its effective use in a wide array of downstream applications. In recent years, reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR) has emerged as a powerful method to identify and quantitate tissue-specific rare mRNAs from small amounts of total RNA and mRNA. In addition, RT-PCR allows for the cloning of cDNA products without the need for constructing and screening cDNA libraries. As the use of amplification as a research tool has grown, the need for methods to rapidly isolate high quality RNA from small amounts of starting material (i.e., tissue and cultured cells) has also increased. The RNAgents® Total RNA Isolation System has been redesigned to address these needs.
