Control and Modulation of Neonatal Myocyte Calcium Movements by Cytokines

The cytokines IL-1-alpha, IL-1-beta and TNF were found to affect calcium movements
in cardiac cells. These compounds appear to uncouple calcium transport from adenylate
cyclase/beta-adrenergic receptor mechanisms. This ability indicates that cytokines may
influence how cardiac cells adapt or recover from stress and injury.
