Abstract

Parallel Analysis of BDNF and NT-3 in Rat Brain

by David J. Earnest, Rajesh Miranda and Farida Sohrabji (Corresponding author: dearnest@tamu.edu) Texas A&M University, Health Science Center Department of Human Anatomy and Medical Neurobiology College of Medicine College Station, TX 77843-1114

Reverse transcription-PCR is a powerful approach to detect rare transcripts in a specific tissue. However, one problem with focusing exclusively on message abundance is that mRNA expression for a given gene may not be indicative of levels of its protein product. In this report, we demonstrate the concurrent analysis of mRNA and cognate protein for BDNF and NT-3 in mammalian rat brain.
