Reverse transcription-PCR is a powerful approach to detect
rare transcripts in a specific tissue. However, one problem with focusing exclusively on
message abundance is that mRNA expression for a given gene may not be indicative of levels
of its protein product. In this report, we demonstrate the concurrent analysis of mRNA and
cognate protein for BDNF and NT-3 in mammalian rat brain.
