PowerStats

For more information, please review the article "Tools for Analysis of Population Statistics" from Profiles in DNA.

Description
PowerStats is a Microsoft® Excel workbook spreadsheet that allows genotype data from STaRCall or Genotyper software to be pasted directly into the workbook to obtain standard population statistics on the distribution of alleles within particular population subsets. Hitachi's STaRCall™ software and the allele table view in Applied Biosystem's Genotyper® software are standard industry software.

Download Instructions
Click-and-hold (Mac) or right-click (PC) on the linked text below to choose to download (save) the spreadsheets to a file location on your computer. Choose a location that you will easily recall in order to open the files in your spreadsheet software.

After downloading the file, reduce the file size and increase the speed of the worksheet. To do this, open the file in Excel and select "Save as" under "File". A dialog box will open requesting you to specify the format in which to save the file. Choose the format that is most appropriate for the version of Excel you are using. You can keep the name of the file the same, which will delete the original file, or you can rename it and have both smaller, faster copy and the larger copy that will work with different versions of Excel.

Additional note for Macintosh® Users
To protect the spreadsheet from modification you may choose to select the file after it is downloaded and then go to the "Get Info" under the "File" menu. There is a check box to designate the spreadsheet as a stationary file. Then when the file is opened, a copy is opened preserving the original file.

Two files available for download:
PowerStatsV12.xls is the empty spreadsheet.
