Fluorescently tagged primers for STR analysis have gained wide use in forensic laboratories around the world. Two primary instrumental approaches for detection of the fluorescent products are: 1) Real Time Analysis, 2) Post acrylamide electrophoresis analysis. In this study an ABI 310 capillary electrophoresis system (real time analysis) and a Hitachi FMBIO®-100 fluorescent scanner (post acrylamide electrophoresis analysis) were used to evaluate 150 Michigan Caucasian samples using the PE Applied Biosystems AmpFISTR® Green II and AmpFISTR® Blue systems.
