Calibration for STR systems using the FMBIO®-100 fluorescent scanner is routinely accomplished by using a fluorescently tagged calibration ladder. Use of a calibration ladder allows for correction of electrophoretic migration artifacts. In this study the Promega Corporation 60-400 bp ladder labeled with carboxy-x-tetramethylrhodamine (CRX) was used to evaluate the precision of the Hitachi FMBIO®-100 fluorescent scanner and its usefulness in STR analysis.
