In the last few years the analysis of DNA STR regions turned out particularly useful in population and forensic studies. However, instability in repetitive domains has been reported in cancers as well as in several human geneticdiseases.
Furthermore, telomeric repetitive regions have been shown to vary in size according to the number of cell divisions. These studies have not been extended to STRs usually employed in forensic routine procedures.
In this work we present the results of the study of the genotype distribution for various STRs (CD4, TH01, VWA31/A, TPO, FES, TP53 and MBPB) on a population sample of normal Caucasians.
Some of these markers show age-dependent effects on (a) presence of rare alleles and (b) significantly different patterns of gene frequencies.
