Paternity Testing in Rhode Island

INTRODUCTION
The Rhode Island Blood Center, an AABB accredited parentage testing laboratory, has been performing parentage testing since 1984. The number of parentage testing cases has increased over the years. In 1995 we performed parentage testing on 610 cases. This is data acquired from 1995.
METHODS
The tests routinely used include ABO, Rh, MNSs and HLA.
DNA loci/probes used included: D7S104/pS194, D17S34/p144-D6, D21S112/pL427-4, D11S129/pR365-1, D1S47/pL336.
Restriction enzyme used was Pst-1.
RESULTS
Racial groupings of mother and alleged father revealed the following:
Total Cases: 610
Average Probability of Paternity = 99.11%
Total Cases with DNA (RFLP) Testing = 70 (11.78%)
