In early May the employees of Promega put down their pens and pipettors for a day to engage in the first ever Promega Science Day at corporate headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin. Getting to Promega. Activities included talks by company scientists, a scientific advisory board member and President/CEO William A. Linton. Scientific posters and demonstrations in the on-site labs interspersed throughout the day encouraged interactivity and cross-departmental discussions. Bill Linton kicked off Promega's Science Day by prefacing the talks with a quick look at the company's 20+ year history and a vision of where Promega is headed, continuing to grow and develop new and better products and services for its international clientele. Linton introduced Science Day coordinator, Jeff Kelly, Protein Expression Group R&D Leader. Jeff next gave a pep talk to a relatively enthusiastic crowd (it was a Monday morning after all) ready to learn what their colleagues---whether neighbors in adjoining cubicles or lab mates down the hall---are working on. BioPharmaceutical Technology Center. The Promega campus consists of multiple buildings spread over a 50+-acre area that includes natural prairie grass, hiking/cross-country ski trails and multiple wooded areas. Operational facilities include corporate headquarters, the BioPharmaceutical Technology Center (BTC), The Faraday Center, as well as the Guest House and the Earth House. Morning talks ranged from recent developments of the READIT DNA interrogation technology, presented by Dan Kephart, Scientific Applications Leader, to how Promega has earned and maintains its strong customer loyalty through extensive technical support of the global Technical Services Department, by Pat Burke, Technical Services Leader. Much work of the Scientific Applications Group goes into Promega Notes and eNotes as applications articles (hence readers of Promega Notes and eNotes applications articles will recognize Dan Kephart's name!).
