What types of carriers are recommended to increase the efficiency of ethanol precipitation in a dilute nucleic acid solution?

There are several carriers, including glycogen, tRNA and herring sperm DNA, that can be added to an ethanol precipitation depending upon the downstream applications. Typically 10-20µg of carrier are added to nucleic acids, but as little as 1µg may be used for efficient precipitation
