Selecting Cell-Based Assays for Drug Discovery Screening

Terry Riss Ph.D., Rich Moravec, B.S. and Andrew Niles, M.S., Promega Corporation

Promega produces a complete portfolio of homogeneous "add-mix-measure" assays.  Choosing a cell-based screening method requires understanding the endpoint measured, the correlation with cell viability and the limitations of the assay chemistries. Here we provide recommendations for characterizing a model assay system, describe some of the factors to consider when choosing cell-based assays for automated systems and show examples of multiplexing cell-based assays.
