This information is to provide an update to Thermo Scientific laboratory
equipment, consumables and Acros Organic solvent pricing for 2011.
As we see in the media daily, economic uncertainty continues in our global
marketplace. Volatility related to raw material supply and commodity
inflation continues to challenge our ability to ensure consistency in our
market.
Since we submitted pricing to you last fall, substantial increases have
materialized in many raw materials critical to our products, including
steel, copper, solvents and plastic resin. Some key components have hit
all-time highs. We have absorbed these increases, which range from 10-50%,
in an effort to mitigate negative impact to our partners. Oil prices also
continue to post sizeable swings. As a critical commodity in our industry
and in the global market, the severe volatility makes forecasting for
downstream products or services nearly impossible.
As a result of these dramatic changes, we need to implement a price
increase, effective July 5, 2011. While the increases are product-specific,
the general range of the list price increase is between 1.5% – 7.0%.
The list price increases will apply to Acros Organics solvents, and our
Thermo Scientific laboratory equipment including Thermo Scientific
consumables and plastic products including Nalgene, Nunc, Matrix,
Finnpipettes, Finntips, National Scientific, MBP, QSP, Sun-SRI-I, I-Chem, EP
Scientific, Samco, Capitol Vial, and Chromacol as well as Thermo Scientific
microplates, microplate instruments and dispensers.
Each of the business units requiring increases will be contacting you or
your teams within the next week to provide the updated pricing. We expect
that these price increases will enable us to manage additional price
uncertainly for the balance of 2011.
We appreciate your understanding in this matter and your continued support
of Thermo Scientific products. Please contact me if you have any questions.
