Promega is proud to sponsor an Innovation Award for the new University of Wisconsin-Madison Innovation Office in Shanghai. In June the UW-Madison Shanghai Innovation Office opened to serve as a focal point for university’s growing engagement in China and Asia. Promega has a long history of collaboration with UW-Madison and is excited to continue our support of education and encourage innovation.
PBI Improves Hazardous Waste Handling

In 2012 Promega Biosciences transitioned to a new hazardous waste handler that provides more environmentally friendly disposal options. Previously 99% of hazardous was incinerated but now waste is being re-used as fuel, treated, re-claimed, or recycled whenever possible. In the first quarter of 2012 only 7% of hazardous waste was incinerated with most waste treated or re-used as fuel. We are proud to announce this transition and will continue to look for ways to limit our waste and impact on the environment.
New Enviro Friendly Shipping Boxes Continue Quality Delivery
January 2012
Starting in January, Promega shipments in North America will be delivered in a new shipping box that has increased benefits to the environment. These shippers have been thoroughly tested and uphold product quality standards for shipping Promega products.
This transition continues a global effort to move from white to brown boxes that provide greater environmental support. By using Sustainable Forestry Initiative certified materials and greater recycled content this transition will help in the preservation or reduction in the following areas:
- 30 tons of virgin wood (210 trees)
- 300,000 gallons of waste water
- 15,000 lbs. of solid waste
- 24,000 lbs. of greenhouse gas emissions
Promega Sponsors International Learning Platform in Germany

The Promega German branch, Promega GmbH, sponsors the international learning platform “Honey Bee Online Studies” (HOBOS) for the next five years. The project of the University Wuerzburg is centered around a honey bee stock, stimulating student's urge to research worldwide.

Pipette Tip Box Recycling is a Huge Success
August 2011
Since August 2010 nearly 17,500 pipette tip boxes or nearly 4,000 lbs. of plastic have been recycled at Promega Headquarters!
In the first half of 2011 alone we have collected and sent 12 yard boxes worth of material (pictured below) to be recycled that was previously being sent to the landfill. This effort shows that simple steps taken by many can have a huge impact.

Brazilian Branch Opening Celebrates Local Youth Orchestra

Promega Biotecnologia do Brasil Ltda officially opened for business on April 4 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It was a night of celebration thanks in part to a wonderful performance by the Orchestra Institute Pao de Acucar, a program for individuals ages 10-21, which focuses on inclusion and social development. Over the last six months, Promega Biosystems has implemented several initiatives to protect, preserve and sustain the environment based on Santa Clara County Green certified standards.
